It's nice experimenting with various food this sem with so many food testers =p Shall try to be more diligent in taking photos and posting them with our own reviews. I guess kor will concentrate more on mains and me on desserts.
My latest achievement would be, *cue drum rolls* APPLE CRUMBLE! =)
Basically I took the recipe (
link) and one thing I like is that they provide videos which helps those who don't have any basics in cooking or just needs help visualizing.
Ingredients:
4 cooking apples (try golden delicious or whichever your favourite apple is)
200g castor sugar
20g brown sugar
200g plain white flour
120g butter
1 clove or cinnamon stick
Short crust pastry (optional) - I used those available pre-made crust from woolies
Method:
1) Peel and core the apple and roughly dice them into chunks.
2) Put apples into pan, add 150g castor sugar, cinnamon stick or clove and cover

3) Stew the apple for approximately 1/2 hour, stirring occasionally with a wooden spoon. Keep checking as they burn easily at the start
4) Check the fruit is cooked by mashing it with the wooden spoon. The apple should be soft, not pureed
5) Put apples into a serving dish and cool (or pastry if desired)
6) Make the crumble. Mix white flour, remaining sugar and butter (cut into chunks) with your fingers in a bowl until a breadcrumb consistency

7) Pre-heat oven at 150 Celsius
8) Cover stewed apples with crumble toppin, without pressing down

9) Bake for approximately 30 minutes, or until crumble is golden brown and crunchy

10) Serve with cream or ice cream =) Enjoy
Do note I twigged the recipe a little to make it less sweet and added the brown sugar due to personal preference so feel free to make necessary changes to suit your own taste =) Would recommend green apples for a more refreshing taste too.
