Sitting in our partially refurbished library freezing my ass out blogging coz I'm kinda lazy and don't feel like doing my assignment (i swear I'd do it after i post this... i hope). At least I've already found journal articles to aid my exams so that's one down. 9 journals and 1 presentation to go. -.-

Got chased out of the nice and quiet project room to the rather nice but noisy library. Maybe I'd take photos of it tomorrow? *cue noisy sliding door opening and closing*

It's going to rain all the way till Monday! why??? Not that I'm planning to go out but it's so miserable and cold and I need to do groceries. I'm out of noodles already.

I've a love-hate relationship with my heater, it keeps me rather warm, but when i face it towards my leg it kinda burns my leg, but if i point it away, my leg's freezing. Such an irritant!

It's already week 13! I cant believe it! I'd be home soon!!!! So can't wait. It's nice here and all but still, I'm going crazy!!! I don't want to cook my meals anymore! I don't want to feel so bored coz there's nothing to do (I'd never ever say there's nothing to do in Singapore ever again.. unless some major changes goes on that i don't know of) and i cant wait to drive again. I'd probably end up giving dad a heart attack again but hey at least i get to drive (note to self: remember to put down hand break!)

and yea, back to the sunny island where my brother (who so sweetly left the rice balls i made in Hog's Breath Cafe.. my first attempt some more) will ignore me again coz he's too busy with his camps.

I wanna go Sentosa, sing k, have chalet, meet ups etc etc etc....

Back to work =(

my first attempt... aint it cute =D

Thursday, May 29, 2008 { 10:54 AM }

It's early and I'm still rather sleepy, so I thought I'd just post up some of my favourite photos from pa's & kor's trip here...

Wednesday, May 28, 2008 { 11:52 AM }

Well, what a week. It was fun having kor and pa head down to visit. It was so much fun heading around with kor and just having fun.

Had Hog's Breath Cafe for dinner on the night they arrived. Ordered this huge ice cream which had everyone in the restaurant both kids and adult drooling after it. A few kids even tried walking past nonchelantly just to take a peek at it.

Headed over to Sea World the next day, sadly the camera died on us halfway. Still it was fun exploring around with kor and just having fun.

Went shopping at Habour town with thea, thumb and family on friday. I wish adidas had nicer jacket designs! Had dinner before heading up to Brisbane to club for the night. Was a little disappointed at some part of the evening but enjoyed myself on the whole. Had fun chatting nonsense with kor at mac and we went to the casino to try our luck. Apparently begainner's luck isn't always true. Saw some people playing Texas Hold'em and man are their stakes high or what.

Slept in on Sat to recharge for our Movie World trip on Sun. Had so much fun taking all the photos, playing games and all. We busted $300 just on that trip and most of it went to our entry tickets and games. Kor managed to grab 2 penguins, we managed to win 2 dogs, 2 small animals and 2 looney toons characters. I just love the people here. We were attempting to get 170 tokens to get a looney toon toy, but since we had 210, we could change the remaining 40 for sweets but the guy told us he'd let us choose another looney toon toy. Happy days! So with 8 toys, we each have 4 toys as our reward. cool ey.

Managed to take photos with all the characters available, it was rather fun to just run around trying to take photos with them as the minders do limit them for a certain timing.

Headed to Paradise Island on Monday. Certain people just make me ashamed to call myself a Singaporean. On a happier note, had fun going round with dad and kor and I just miss having an animal to play with. The koalas were rather active that day and this kangaroo tried to hug this kid freaking him out. Went to the animal nursery to find the funniest looking chicken as well as pigs, sheeps and the cutest lamb you've ever seen! I so wanted to bring it home with me there and then. This dog was happily walking around and staring into the guinea pig cage all the time. It didn't even bother about me when I was patting it and just kept staring in.

Some people were rather irritating, opening the cage and slamming the door on the poor baby lamb's head and leg as it was about to make its way out. Trying to feed the sheep but feeling to scared resulting in the sheep wanting to jump out. *sigh*

Watched some shows and what a show, using the whip to cut ferns, having a dog herd sheeps, how they make tea in the wild and even horse riding. It was fun and yes there were cute guys =p.

Tried to take a photo with the horse and the hosts but again there are irritating people who refuses to line up. Made friends with the photographer and I was next in line and no one could cut in coz he was there 'watching out' for me. Cool ey, it's always better to make friends with them and you'd get priority.

Sheep shearing after that. It was so much better than the one we saw years back. The guy managed to control the sheep so it didnt struggle much and he cut it so well it was just a piece of wool and the sheep didnt even get cut. Saw many different types of sheep and boy do they stink lol.

Some lady tried cutting my queue when I was about to wash hand before lunch. Eh you think I stand behind the person for fun ar. Managed to push my way and I think she got the hint (otherwise she's seriously dense and isn't fit to be on this earth) and backed off a little.

Lunch was rather good and again, people took too much food and they couldnt finish it. Typical fellow country men. Makes me sick just to be associated with them.

Had presentation yesterday which was quite disappointing before heading back to Hog's Breath Cafe for dinner with pa & kor. The waitress even recognised us and this time we had that huge ice cream and creme brulee which was oh so good. Pictures are with pa or I would love to share how good it looked.

Got a jumper, kor got a cap and slippers. He's got me tempted to buy a similar cap as well. Maybe I will do that before heading back. They have so much nicer designs here tho it's more ex. I find that I buy alot of clothes from the guy section here lol. All my jackets are meant for guys for one.

Now that Pa & kor had their holiday. It's time to mug. Destination Marketing Exam on tues, Tourism Enterprise assignment and presentation on thurs. Wish me luck people.

Friday, May 23, 2008 { 3:37 AM }

I'm so freaking pissed that even the fact that pa and kor is here to visit is making me any happier.

words just fail me.

can you just bang your head against the wall till some sense get knocked into you or is it an impossible task coz no sense will get in even if your head's all bloody?

Remember I was complaining about the lack of water the other day?
------>
Dear Residents,
Unfortunately the plumbers were not able to come in today, so you should have hot water as normal.

There will be here on Monday 19th to fix the broken pipe after 9am.

There will be no hot water for only 20/30 minutes sometime between 9am and 1 pm.

Sorry for the inconvenience caused.
------>
Apparently people were queuing up in the morning at the toilet near the pool. Don't they bother to check whether there's really no water before going down? All I did was to bring a big bottle of water into the toilet, try my luck by turning on the tap and viola~ There was water and I could even take a shower before going school.

Yea anyway rushing out my assignment for tomorrow. Still haven't started, have the ideas but I just seem so stuck on how to do it. I need inspiration!!! What's a 1500 word essay since I've just submitted a 2500 word essay on fri? Apparently a whole lot since I have no idea how to start -.-"

Went to buy some chips and coffee at the vending machine and the sight of the pack of chips made me really excited! I'm not crazy la, but it was stuck there so there were 2 alternatives to get that free bag of chips. 1) Shake the machine and everyone else would think you're crazy coz it's just outside the library, in full view of those at the bus stop etc. 2) Buy that exact same chips. It's rather obvious I chose the latter. So now I've a pack of m&ms and 2 packs of chips. It'll better keep me awake man.

Actually I rather like studying in school. Pack lunch (salmon, cheese, ham and tomato sandwich today) and share it with my friends. Emiko broght that triangle rice .. ball? Not too sure what it's called but I'm gonna learn how to make that and bring it along in future =D

okay back to work. Inspiration please!

2.18 am. Apparently grp report's all good and all done. but i still havent seen it.

{ 12:08 AM }

Sitting in the comp lab now waiting for mummy to help me sort out my report before i can finish off the recommendations and i'm done for today (technically it's friday already).

12.09 am. Where is the report???? my heart's really at the bottom of my stomach. who's editing it? is it edited? and how are you going to submit it without our student id?

shitty internet decided to stop working around 6pm. it's showing it's connect but still. Why am i paying $215/wk for a place where i still need to pay $40 for shitty internet who also goes for student night at surfers/tavern every thurs and yet is 'disappearing' even earlier than students. This is like the 2nd time this week it doesnt work!!!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hi Residents of Building 1, 2 & 3
Reminder tomorrow at 9am to about 1pm, there will NO WATER, that means no water for toilets, showers or basins.
If you need to have a shower or use the bathrooms, please use the ones down near the pool.
The plumber needs to fix the cracked pipe outside the convenience store.
Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
you mean the convenience store's gonna finally be open? *gasps* you mean it only takes one semester to open it? omg omg omg! it's so exciting i could pee in my pants. *roll eyes*

Just feeling so cynical and sacarstic these few days.

It's thursday and i cant believe i'm still in front of my comp.

Wednesday, May 14, 2008 { 8:08 PM }

I stupidly refused to bring rubber bands to tie my hair because "aiya, my hair won't grow so fast la" and now I've to use those wires used to tie cables when you first buy it to tie my hair. Mum you can stop laughing now. lol

Report's still crap, after editing and adding my parts I think I've done more than half the report. Even if the two girls contribute to the presentation, it's just not worth for them to get the marks as well. Speaking for presentation, oh man I can foresee it's going to be shit again. Why cant they just focus on the commercial itself? 10 minutes isn't enough for you to tell them why, how, when, etc they should come and such. Sell the commercial and the place you dumbasses. Bah.

I want to eat chilli crab!!! Mummy, daddy! Cook crab for me when I'm back please. Actually just cook for me when I'm back haha. Funny thing is I eat more elaborate meals here than back home. Everything's so plan and simple at home. Here, well you've seen what I've cooked and presented it so nicely haha.

Well let me end off with my baked butter rice with meat ball and the lovely view from my room =D

Tuesday, May 13, 2008 { 9:33 PM }

I just saw the most disgusting show ever.

Cutting Edge
Bulgaria's Abandoned Children

Bulgaria has more institutionalised mentally and physically disabled children than anywhere else in Europe. This film is a heart-rending look into the life of one such institution. Director Kate Blewett visits a children's care home in Bulgaria where 75 unwanted children are growing up, and investigates the conditions in which the children live. The care home is the main employer in the small village of Mogilino, over an hour from the nearest town. Few of the children can talk, not necessarily because they are unable to, but rather because no one has ever taught them how.

It was so heart wrenching that I couldnt stop crying. The kids were so malnurished that they were like skeletons and most of them just stopped walking, communicating and they just sat there going crazy. 10 kids died in the last 2 years mostly due to malnutrition and yet the director of the place still thinks that the food's good and that she's a good director, it's the staff that failed her. The government even maintained that all institutes in the country were going in accordance to the law and all's good. What is so wrong with this world? They even cut off a kid's thumb coz he was always sucking on it and they couldn't even say if it's due to gangerne or not. It's so bloody sick that words just fail me.

{ 4:37 PM }

A round of applause for my favourite group mate *claps*

She's so smart, she thinks our target market for our destination marketing is ..... KOREA!!! *woots*

3 days before our assignment's due she hasn't realised our freaking target market is India and to think she was supposed to have done some research on it many weeks back. Mind you. If you don't realise the difference, let me just state the more obvious ones for you. Firstly Koreans are fair and Indians are well tanned. To put it simply, koreans are white and indians are black. Surely that's enough for you not to mix them up?

This coming from someone who during meeting in week 8 asking me if the items we were discussing were from the email i sent out in week 6. Hello, I send you email for fun ar. Hey, how have you been? This project sucks right. Oh yea, you're doing sports management, it's okay, i understand you don't know much about marketing. Let alone our theme is cricket which is a SPORT. It's okay, sports don't need marketing, people just come to know of it and are instantly crazy over it. Don't worry about the special interest tourism trend. Those sports destination tourism thing? The idea just comes from people who does hotel or tourism management. Wth man. It's enough you don't do work, don't contribute and yet you can't spend 2 minute to open and read the email I sent you which was to assign you a part.

Classic.

Another classic example from another group mate. I seriously didnt realise that going off early for tutorial is enough excuse for you not to do work. All the more you should have done your part coz we told you we WOULD email you your part so that you can do it. Eh one week no meeting due to mid sem means you get 2 weeks holiday ar. Very shuang right, can have even more holidays. Why don't you just take the rest of the semester off. Better yet, don't study. Next time I also go off early and say, oh coz i left early i don't know what you guys did after that so i shan't do anything.

And i still cant stand it. Ask you send to me to compile lei. Compile = to put together (documents, selections, or other materials) in one book or work. It doesnt mean give me some shitty points or better yet, copy and paste from your references and tell me it's your draft and you'd send me the actual copy which till to date i've not seen it. Please don't give me the excuse of "oh the power at my house went out", "i really did send to you, but i cant send it again coz i deleted my sent folder and i accidently deleted it and cleared my trash bin" it's all been heard before many years ago.

I just don't understand. 2nd and 3rd year students. Have you not done a single report before? Even if you haven't i've sent you a copy of my past project so why the hell are you still so dense??? Why do you look as if "woah ... report ... wow... what's that?"

Wasting my time and taking up valuable oxygen on earth.

And yea *claps* to my tutor who decided there's no tutorial today and didnt even bother to put it up on black board.

woots my life is just so peachy ey. *roll eyes*

Wasted $25 when we went to check out the anime convention at Brisbane. It was probably 1.5 times the size of my apartment but most of it was for anime screenings and selling of itmes. such waste of time and money. It wasn't like back home with the professional cosplay people and all and the best part, we even saw undertaker there. Like since when is he part of anime?

Wondered around a little. Some incident happened with made me rather pissed off. Happy to have met up thea, thumb and mimi tho. More meet ups pls!! When are you guys gonna come down?

Went to the casino to try our luck and pass time. Our usually lucky machine decided not to give amanda and i any luck so we hopped around a lil, earning back our capital for that one machine. Terrible. In the end we decided to head back to our usual machine when this guy left and it finally decided to bless us with some luck. I found a $20 note staring at me while we were playing halfway! haha. It was quite hilarious coz we were deciding whether or not to take it just yet and we decided to finish playing that round, take the money and somewhat ran out of the casino. Our best entertainment for the day man.

anyway back to work. sighhhhhhhhhhh

"I am a Front Desk Agent"

I have advanced degrees in Accounting, Public Relations, Marketing, Business, Computer Science, Civil Engineering, and Swahili. I can also read minds.

Of course I have the reservation that you booked six years ago even though you don't have the confirmation number and you think it was made under a name that starts with "S".

It is completely my fault that the blizzard shut down the airport and you have to sleep in a warm king-size bed while 5000 of your co-travellers are sleeping in benches at the airport. I am sorry.

It is not a problem for me to give you seven connecting, non-smoking, poolside suites with two king beds in each, four rollaways, 3 cribs, and yes, I can install a wet bar. I know it is my fault that we do not have a helicopter landing pad.

I am a Front Desk Agent. I am expected to speak all languages fluently. It is obvious to me that when you booked your reservation for Friday on the weekend we're sold out that you really meant Saturday. My company has entrusted me with all financial information and decisions, and yes, I am lying to you when I say we have no more rooms available. It is not a problem for me to quickly construct several more guest rooms. THIS time I will not forget the helicopter landing pad. And it is my fault that everyone wanted to stay here. I should have known you were coming in, even though you had no reservation. After all, you stay at our brand of hotel all the time, 300 nights a year, and this is only the first time you've ever been to our city.

I am a front desk agent. I am quite capable of checking three people in, two people out, taking five reservations, answering fifteen incoming calls, delivering six bath towels to room 625, plunging the toilet in room 101, and restocking the supply of pool towels, all at the same time. Yes, I will be glad to call the van driver and tell him to drive over all the cars stuck in traffic because you've been waiting at the airport for 15 minutes and you've got jet lag.

I am a front desk agent, an operator, a bellhop, houseman, guest service representative, housekeeper, sales coordinator, information specialist, entertainment critic, restauranteur, stock broker, referee, janitor, computer technician, plumber, ice-breaker, postman, babysitter, dispatcher, laundry cleaner, lifeguard, electrician, ambassador, personal fitness trainer, fax expert, human jukebox, domestic abuse counselor, and verbal punching bag. Yes, I know room 112 is not answering their phone. And of course I have their travel itinerary so I know exactly where they went when they left here 9 hours ago, and what their cell phone number is.

I always know where to find the best vegetarian-kosher-Mongolian-barbecue restaurants. I know exactly what to see and do in this city in fifteen minutes without spending any money and without getting caught in traffic. I take personal blame for airline food, traffic jams, rental car flat tires, and the nation's economy.

I realize that you meant to book your reservation here. People often confuse us with the Galaxy Delight Motel, Antarctica. Of course I can "fit you in" and yes, you may have the special $1 rate because you are affiliated with the Hoboken Accounting and Bagel Club.

I am expected to smile, empathize, sympathize, console, condole, upsell, downsell (and know when to do which), perform, sing, dance, fix the printer, and tell your friends that you're here. And I know exactly where 613 Possum Trot Lane is in the Way Out There subdivision that they just built last week.

After all, I AM a Front Desk Agent!

{ 12:50 PM }

For all you fellow coursemates...

you know you've worked in hotels when....
1) Getting up at 4am on sunday is standard practice.
2) You can't switch on anything electrical without a credit card sized piece of plastic.
3) getting 2 days off in a row is like a having a 2 week vacation.
4) You uses abbreviations and acronyms for EVERYTHING, like DM, PMS, MOD, C & E, F & B, HR, FOM etc...
5) Your stomach, now used to eating staff canteen food, is capable of swallowing ANYTHING!
6) Your day somehow doesn't seem complete without someone yelling at you in full view of the rest of the hotel, convinced they are right about everything, when in actuality they are so wrong its untrue.
7) People assume you know the answer to everything, when actually you just came on shift 5 minutes ago.
8) You were supposed to finish work a 3pm, but its 4.30 and you're still here.
9) Your bank is NEVER balanced.
10) You learn, VERY QUICKLY, to never, EVER, f**k with the person who handles your food!
11) Back to Backs, double and split shifts are the norm.
12) Minibars are NOT REFRIDGERATORS!!!!!!!!!!
13) Minibars are AUTO CHARGING AND WEIGHT SENSITIVE!!
14) Guests do not grasp the concept of nos 12 and 13!
15) Conference and Events never has the same staff working on two consecutive parties, as all of the staff are hired on a shift by shift basis.
16) At least one person will complain about the fact their debit card has a mysterious charge on it, which takes 8 days to clear. But of course we did ask for a CREDIT card on check in!!
17) No matter how hard you try to explain that the room type was REQUESTED, NOT GUARANTEED, the guest always expects to get a Non Smoking, King Size Bed with a view!!
18) Air conditioning is ALWAYS noisy. No matter how far from the unit the room is, someone can hear it rattling.
19) See number 10, but replace food with Laundry!
20) Guests insist on splitting the bill so that the "movies" they order are not on the same credit card.
21) Office politics are more OTT than real politics.
22) your social life revolves entirely around work nights out, since that's the only guaranteed time off you get to go out and get wasted!!

Tuesday, May 6, 2008 { 8:57 PM }

Took a break from school and work today as I'm still nursing a cold and frankly, I don't think I've the energy to go for project meeting and hearing us having to allocate the work again. It's due next week and if we still have to allocate work, there's something really wrong.

Headed to Australia Fair to satisfy my mac & KFC craving. It was okay. Decided I shall try all of mac's burger before I head back end year lol. Enjoyed our lunch by the ... beach (if you consider that as one). Saw many cute kids and dogs. Watched Made of Honour after that and it's so sweet! The scenary and all just makes it such a fairytale.

Anyway being random while waiting for the bus, we came out with the next few questions. Do tag your thoughts as well:

1) Why does the sky get darker earlier in winter? (if earth still rotate around the sun the same way, shouldn't it stay the same?)
2) Why does Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne have differnt timings though it's the same country?
3) Why is it caucasians are considered whites, asians yellow etc?
4) Who said that caucausions look good in blonde but asians look weird in blonde?

You get the idea... anyway back to my miserable leftovers

{ 1:02 PM }

Why must I always be "blessed" with such nice teammates everytime. Frankly, since when is a mission and statement 150 words long? It doesnt mean that if I'm compling the work means u can send me copy and paste articles from the internet saying it's your draft from last wednesday and till now I havent recieved the actual document. I feel like just doing up the whole project on my own since I need the grades to pull up my shitty mid sem paper which I haven't recieved marks about.

Nursing a cold now, must be due to my frozen feet both day and night. Should I get a heater?

Was so not in the mood to do work yesterday so I basically cooked the whole day. Egg & tuna sandwich in the morning, soup, baked chicken in the evening. It was rather good, just that the tomato wasn't that ripe so it didnt get the desired effect I wanted.

Groceries are coming up to $80 a week. Goodness. I eating way more than what I did back home. I can see my tummy growing bigger each time. I want to swim and exercise!!!

I'm off to go out for a little while, before I mug tonight to finish up my marketing assignment.

Due dates:
13 may: HRM individual assignment - shall start on it tmr
16 may: Destination marketing group report
Business Communication reflective essay
03 june: Destination marketing final exam
05 june: Tourism Enterprise panel presentation & critical journal

not alot of time left! gambattei!!

Saturday, May 3, 2008 { 1:46 PM }

Supposed to be attempting my marketing assignment but I shall just give up. I can't understand why we are still allocating stuff and having discussions of what to do when it's already starting week 9 and it's due what... week 10?

Realised I haven't blogged in a while, been having the motivation but just too darn lazy. Went swimming yesterday and I feel 50 years older. I should go swimming once a week so that I can exercise and tone up.

Assignments are due soon but where's my motivation?
